2026 – GREENMOUNT CYCLING ACADEMY, 10 YEARS AND GROWING

Welcome to the Greenmount Cycling Academy for 2026. This will be the 14th year of providing cycling coaching at Limerick Racecourse and the 10th anniversary of our club which was formed in 2016. The numbers attending the academy have grown every year and we have changed to accommodate the needs of our members.

WHAT WE DO

The Academy provides a training program for all youth members from age 6 up to 15 years old, boys and girls, in a safe car‑free location. This training is primarily aimed at preparing youths for competitive road cycling and cyclocross for age categories U10–U16. Qualified coaches provide the skills and training advice necessary to take part in racing. The coaches will provide information to new members on bike setup, gearing, training etc.

Over the past ten years our riders have brought home national and provincial medals across all cycling disciplines (road, time‑trial, criterium and cyclocross). We even have had a rider in the Tour de France (Fiona Mangan – Le Tour de France Femmes 2025).

Our main aim is to provide the skills needed to cycle safely and to nurture a love for the bike. If your child is not interested in racing there is a place for them also at Greenmount Cycling Academy.

RECAP ON 2025 ACTIVITIES

In 2025 we ran our academy and inclusion club for approx. 18 weeks. We ran the first city centre criterium for many years in Ireland in May when we held the National Criterium Championships & support races on a closed circuit in Kings Island, Limerick. We hosted riders from all over the country in those races.

We also ran the Munster Criterium Championships and the Munster Youth Road Race Championships in August, as well as a Masters‑only race among two racedays at the racecourse, and the Kilteely GP in April. We also hosted three cyclocross races recently with a round of the Munster and National Series and the Munster Cyclocross Championships in December — all at Limerick Racecourse.

WEDNESDAY TRAINING

Youth training takes place each Wednesday, 18:30–19:30, starting on April 29th 2026 at Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell. Inclusion activities run from 18:00–18:30 and adult training after 19:30.

Training will run most Wednesdays until the end of August. Please keep an eye on Greenmount Cycling Academy on Facebook and our parents WhatsApp group for updates and weather‑related changes.

Helmets are compulsory. All participants must pre‑register, sign a code of behaviour and obey our coaches and stewards. Please respect the racecourse property and keep off the racetrack grass.

We require parents/guardians contact details for communication. We use WhatsApp for updates and do not contact riders directly.

We welcome youths from all clubs. Cycling Ireland recommends all youths join a club after their first three sessions with us.

Greenmount Cycling Academy is a registered Cycling Ireland Club. You can join at:

A youth licence (U10) costs €10. Our club will run youth races on four race days. A Cycling Ireland licence is required to take part and entry is online.

Club membership is €25 for the year and can be paid when taking out your Cycling Ireland licence.
